The University of Adelaide

ADELAIDE, the vibrant capital of South Australia is becoming a much-reckoned destination for Indian students pursuing their higher education in Australia. Its popularity has surged of late and according to south Australian Premier Mike Rann the number of Indian students choosing Adelaide, for higher studies has increased by more than 70 per cent in the past two years. The city has a relaxed charm about it and yet scores high on urban amenities like transport and infrastructure . This coupled with its safety and easy accessibility makes it an endearing destination not just for Indian students but students across the world. Infact the total number of international students who have chosen Adelaide for their education has doubled in just five years to reach 23,500 in 2007.

Being home to three internationally recognised universities, an extensive vocational training system, a wide range of specialised tertiary institutions and a highly regarded primary and secondary school sector, the city ranks high on its academic credentials. Many international universities have chosen Adelaide for setting up their Australian campus. The Carnegie Mellon University offering US degrees is one such university. Some of the courses offered at Adelaide’s world-class universities include wine and food, biological sciences, physical sciences, information technology , telecommunications, environmental sciences and social sciences.

Universities in Adelaide are committed to fostering collaboration in research, ensuring that knowledge and expertise is shared between the countries of the students and Australia. This is one distinct reason why Indian students increasingly are choosing Adelaide as a destination for higher education. Moreover universities in Adelaide are offering an increasing number of scholarships to India’s best and brightest students. According to Rann, Adelaide’s institutions offer more than $3 million in scholarships - excluding the substantial grants offered by the Australian Federal Government through schemes such the Endeavour Student Exchange Scholarships.
